Cornerstone Tutoring & Educational Consulting

Why the Butterfly – My logo features a butterfly because that is my ultimate goal.  Students often come to me discouraged and feeling like they “can’t do” a particular subject.  They see themselves as caterpillars.  My mission is to help them through their metamorphosis.  When they understand the material and gain the confidence they need to continue learning on their own, they can spread their wings and fly away.  It brings me such joy to see the beautiful “butterflies” they become.

IEP Advocacy

Curriculum Design

Teach K-12 Classes

Support parents through the IEP process to obtain testing and services for children with learning disabilities and special needs.

For homeschoolers, I design curriculum that meets State Standards, yet gives the student and parent the freedom to explore learning beyond a textbook.

For parents who love the idea of homeschooling, but would like someone else to instruct, I teach Math, English, History, and other subjects by request.

If it wasn't for the 2020 Covid episode, my daughter may have gone down a very negative high school path. In the thick of a pandemic where most children seem to be in limbo with academics, we made a decision to homeschool and hire LisaMarie as our daughter's teacher from 2021 and on. LisaMarie took the reigns of all the core subjects, and since then my daughter has blossomed as a student. She has grown from a young pre-teen, detesting school and anything associated with it, to a curious and confident high schooler. Her approach with our daughter's learning challenges has been key to helping her understand traditional academic subjects, and best of all, her compassion was key to opening up our daughter's heart and mind. We would have never received such attention in a public school. It's rare to find someone who can teach in specificity to a child's learning with empathy. LisaMarie is an extremely gifted teacher. She is worth her weight in gold.

LisaMarie taught math and English to our children with great success for several years. We would alternate between homeschooling one year and then sending the kids to the Palo Alto public schools the next year. We were concerned that the kids would have 'holes' in their learning as a result. LisaMarie was able to make the transition seamless. Her unique curriculums not only aligned with the state standards but allowed for strengthening in weak areas and it also covered areas that the public schools did not address. LisaMarie taught in an engaging style with patience, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor. Not only was the transition between homeschool and public school seamless, but both children excelled in both their math and English studies.

We are so grateful to have found LisaMarie. My daughter has never enjoyed school but LisaMarie’s positive energy and guidance helped her successfully get through Freshman English and all of her college application essays! Her patience and ability to help brainstorm and move through the writing process smoothly were just what my daughter needed! It has been such a blessing to see her confidence grow by being so supported and encouraged. Thank you!!!

My son was really far behind in Math (3 years behind) and English (2 years behind).  I wanted to send him to a private school for high school, but I knew he would have to pass a test.  I had LisaMarie homeschool him for 8th grade.  She got him to grade level in all subjects.  He passed the test and was accepted to the private school.  LisaMarie gave him a solid foundation that year and he was very successful in high school.

For the spring semester I was taking Business Calculus at college. When Covid-19 hit all classes were canceled for a couple of weeks so the teachers could learn how to do the classes online. After a couple of weeks, I was supposed to have online classes, but all my Business Calculus teacher did was send out lecture notes. Since there were no classes, I contacted LisaMarie to help me and she taught me the rest of my Business Calculus class. She explained it very well. Before Covid-19, I was getting a B, and by the end of the course I got an A- for the entire course.

When the lockdown started, my daughter had to sit in Zoom class for 25 hours a week with little access to help from the teacher. She was getting further and further behind so I asked LisaMarie to homeschool my daughter until the schools reopened. LisaMarie customized the curriculum for my daughter's learning style and made learning enjoyable. Even though it was only for a semester, my daughter completed a year of science, language arts, and history in addition to a semester of math during that time. She went from being behind in learning to excelling.
